Hot toddies by design should be tastefully simple. Mainly: citrus, notes of cinnamon, bourbon(or rye, or whiskey) and honey. I’m not reinventing anything here, only ~enhancing~.
My Hot Toddy Helper Tea contains a light spritz of sweet orange and lemon oil, plus orange peel, lemon peel, Ceylon cinnamon bark, ginger root, and just a little bit of clove and star anise.
All you have to do is steep one of these tea bags in freshly boiled water, stir in some honey and wait a few minutes for the flavors to develop. Leave your tea bag in your cup for the best flavor. Add 1.5 oz of bourbon or your preferred liquor after it slightly cools (to prevent alcohol evaporation) and you are good to go!
Note: while you absolutely don’t have to use any booze with this tea, if you’re planning on going tea-totaler then i recommend the Autumns Cup tea blend. It has a bit of a mulled wine flavor already, the wine-ish taste coming from the elderberries.
