Since i was just a little girl, mimosa tree (Albizia julibrissin) has been my absolute favorite. The fluffy, Seussian blossoms captured my imagination- still do! Also, have you ever buried your nose in a mimosa blossom? Because not only are they beautiful, but also deliciously fragrant.

Mimosa has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine as a sedative, specifically to calm and lift the spirit. The bark is believed to be grounding to the spirit and the blossoms are believed to be lifting.

Mimosa can be used to help treat anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, unresolved grief, and other emotional trauma.

A suggested serving for extreme circumstances is a teaspoon 3x a day for a week, then slowly decrease to one small serving a day or as needed. However there is nothing wrong with taking more if you feel like you need it.

Albizia is native to China, Persia, Korea and Japan but at some point was introduced to North America where it now thrives and is considered an invasive species. Despite being considered “invasive”, mimosa trees offer a pretty sweet favor to its plant neighbors. It is in the bean family, and is a nitrogen fixer. This means it releases nitrogen into the soil through its roots, and surround plants use that nitrogen to fuel their growth.

I make my tincture in two separate batches, one for the blossoms and one for the twigs, bark, leaves and seed pods. When they are ready, the two are then combined.
